Event details
Description
Policy innovation for a sustainable future — a dialogue on exploring the shift towards circular economies — featured in the fifth seminar in the series. The EU is progressing with its Circular Economy Action Plan which aims to decouple economic growth from resource use while fostering long-term competitiveness. In New Zealand, strides are being made with the Plastic Packaging Declaration and Waste Minimisation Act which lays the groundwork for comprehensive legislation in NZ although the policy landscape in the country is in a nascent stage. Together these regional efforts illustrate a global momentum toward policy frameworks that underpin and accelerate the transition to circular economic models. Industry and academia speakers from the EU and New Zealand investigated the critical roles of policymaking, industry engagement, and consumer behaviour in catalysing a circular economy transition. Kenneth Husted, Professor of Innovation and Research Management at the University of Auckland Business School moderated the panel discussion with interventions from Louise Nash, CEO of Circularity and XLabs; Aotearoa's first circular economy lab, Professor Dr Katrien Verleye of the Service Innovation & Design Group at Ghent University; Julia Fehrer, Associate Professor of Innovation and Strategy at the University of Auckland Business School; and Professor Ken Webster Visiting Professor from Cranfield University.
