Event details
Description
In the last decades, constructed wetlands have been developed and used in various technical designs. They use natural purification processes involving wetland vegetation, soils and microbial assemblages in shallow waters. Circulation of water bodies also supports water quality restoration and considerate wetland purification goals, when it keeps flow properly. As a Nature-Based Solution, constructed wetlands and water bodies are combinable Wetland-Water Purification Systems (WWPS). They are flexibly applied in urban and rural landscape to deal with water threats and shortages caused by climate change, population growth and all kinds of functions that affect surface, underground and supplied water.
In China, wetland and water purification is an ancient idea getting attention again with rising water challenges. Gradually, wetland parks, canals and wetland areas are improving quality and maintenance in many cities, with inhabitants learning and appreciating more about wetland-water purification.
For implementing an urban Wetland-Water Purification System (WWPS) for surface water in a major city of the Yangtze River Delta (YRD), a governmental water department and a national research institute look for a technical design team from the EU to join the design and implementation team, that is specialized in constructed wetland and water purification projects. Proven and innovation technologies are also being explored to improve effectiveness of WWP technical designs.
The project area (70.5 ha) is located in an urban wetland park. From existing polder lakelets, ca. 38 ha can be used for wetland and water purification. Some specific purification goals of the project include: To increase water transparency, control ammonia-nitrogen and COD level, to treat a considerable amount of surface water daily. The purified water shall feed a heritage canal system in the city centre.
The project is planned to be implemented before October 2021.
For more information, please mail an institutional or company introduction before 27th August 2020 (additonal info at latest 30th). The introduction should include one or more realized wetland-water purification cases in the EU, China or other regions.
