Event details
Description
Balancing food security with sustainable farming practices, the pivotal role of research and innovation for sustainability, and having a common voice in international discussions were among the key points made at the fourth seminar of the series focused on Sustainable Agriculture. Organised around a visit by Director General Wolfgang Burtscher from DG Agriculture and Rural Development (DG Agri), it gave an update on the inaugural International Strategic Agriculture Dialogue (ISAD) between Mr Burtscher and his counterpart in NZ, Ray Smith the Director General of the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI). A fireside discussion between Mr Burtscher and Mr Smith was moderated by journalist Peter Burke from the Rural News Group. Networking among those with interests in agriculture in NZ, state and local government officials, agricultural industry bodies, research institutes including universities and think tanks, and EU Member State ambassadors, was facilitated by a reception built around EU Geographical Indications (GI) wine, cheese and meat.
