Event details
Description
With the support of the Government of Sweden, the government of Tunisia, UN Women and UNDP organised the Tunis Forum on Gender Equality, on 24-26 April 2019. The initiative pursues actions, commitments and partnerships emerging from the Stockholm Forum on Gender Equality in April 2018.
The Tunis Forum for Gender Equality took place one year before the 25thanniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA), the 20th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, and the first Global Sustainable Development Report.
The forum focused on Gender Equality and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a three-pronged emphasis on (i) political participation including the role of subnational and local governments and political leadership in civil society and trade unions; (ii) economic empowerment including the role of local entrepreneurs and targeted measures to improve women’s participation in the workforce and; (iii) action related to the Women, Peace and Security and Sustaining Peace agenda with a particular focus on ending violence against women through legal reform, improving gender justice and preventing violent extremism.
