Updates on an EU Garment Initiative
Dear members,
After the informal consultations with stakeholders end of June 2015, we are currently evaluating the stakeholder input we received at these meetings and in the questionnaires that were sent out to take stock of your expectations and suggestions for this initiative and for the actions to be undertaken at EU level.
The evaluation exercise will help us in bringing added value at EU level, and to build on existing initiatives. Indeed, as preliminary results from the questionnaires show, many stakeholders suggest a stronger focus of an EU initiative, as well as ensuring complementarity with existing initiatives and work already done on responsible supply chain management.
We are also using this feedback as a basis for launching a study in the next weeks to assist the European Commission in mapping existing initiatives, identifying possible gaps and EU added value areas. The work is also on-going within the European Commission on various activities including projects in the garment sector in producing countries that will contribute to the objectives of an envisaged initiative. At the same time, consultations are ongoing.
Further information will be shared with you soon. We are looking forward to your active contributions as experts in your respective fields and to your input and feedback!
