Dear Media Consulta team,

Dear communicators of EYD,

On behalf of CONCORD, the European NGO confederation for Relief and Development, the organisation due to lead the Civil Society Alliance during EYD, we'd like to encourage all co-curators to avoid using stereotypical images and images which come without minimum references to the country or person pictured across all communication materials.

The EYD is a great opportunity to communicate development issues more effectively, in new ways which the public are not used to or to. This is a challenge for all of us, from NGOs to institutions.

Some participants raised this issue at the revent stakeholder meeting, where images of children for example were used randomly on some materials.

For example, the EYD Facebook page cover image today displays some children in a school (but we have no idea where they are, who they are, if their school was helped by development aid etc). Adding references to photos can really help in this regard. It's a question of authenticity and respect.

Please find two relevant documents:

An illustrated guide on images and messages (code of conduct): http://www.dochas.ie/Shared/Files/5/Illustrative_Guide_to_the_Dochas_Co… narrative project guide: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4wdbzc9d5h3o3ls/AAAV8tlB0RbPVrvF0240E6R7a/UK…

Look forward to working with you all on the fantastic opportunity that is the EYD2015!

Best,

Daniel
