In the Gambia, the capacity of civil society has expanded in recent years as more freedom of expression has occurred. The major challenge is to ensure that the voices of civil society are heard at all levels. Their role in decision-making, in holding the government to account and acting as a counterbalance needs to be further strengthened, by ensuring their proper consultation and by making sure their voices are taken into account
