March 2012 Monitoring report Kenya
Mulit-secor monitoring mission to Turkana, Kenya. Turkana was one of the most malnutrition affected regions in the Horn of Africa in 2011. GAM levels reached 30% and above. Recent nutritional surveys measured significant improvements in the situation at the end of 2011 thanks to the scale up of interventions by implementing partners as well as the improved meteoroligical conditions.
Partners are working more and more through the public health system and focus on capacity building. While this strategy is reinforcing the local capacity, paps in the quality of the intervention (monitoring data, mentoring) needs to be adressed.
Strengthening of the national health information system (including nutritional reporting by facility) is recommended.
