Transforming our world: Global implications for skills and work
Presentation slide delivered by Pr Kenneth King during the annual seminar on Education Brussels October 2015.
Content focuses on the history of the Global debate on Education linked to the agreements on development goals from the conference of Jomtien, the Millenium Summit (2000) to the new Sustainable Devevelopment Goals (SDGs) globaly agreed in May 2015.
The presentation underlines some positive changes introduced by the SDGs such as a wider implication of stakeholders, the formulation of targets related to Technical Vocational Education and Training including Life-long learning and goals aiming at developing knowledge and skills of young and adults enabling them to access decent wotk and to fully participate to society.
The presentation mentions however some tensions and contradictions between the 13 SDGs targets related to Education as well as their relation to tagets related to employment. Moreover, the absence of clearly measurable targets could weaken the success and the implementation of the SDGs in the sector of Education and TVET
