Voices of women leading the green and just transition in Latin America and the Caribbean
In this publication, the Euroclima Programme set out to provide an overview that synthesises the strengths and challenges facing regional climate action in pursuit of an equitable approach to environmental protection. The aim was not only to share valuable experiences and lessons learned but also to highlight the key role of women, in all their diversity, as agents of change. It amplifies the voices of 25 women from different countries across the region, each contributing from their respective positions at various levels and spheres shaping the green and just transition. The publication includes insights from climate action initiatives developed within regional governments, academia, activism, the private sector, civil society, and international organisations. It also draws on expertise across key areas such as urban mobility, sustainable energy, circular economy, water and sanitation, biodiversity and ecosystems, resilient food production, disaster risk reduction, governance, and climate finance. In addition to sharing these voices, the publication highlights selected initiatives that contribute to the objectives of a green and just transition, chosen for their regional, gender, or social inclusion focus. Finally, it presents key policy recommendations. The Euroclima Programme is co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Government through the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
