Teachers are at the heart of achieving inclusive and quality education, as outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 4. As the most influential factor in student learning, their role is critical—but many still lack the training and support needed to meet the evolving demands of today’s classrooms.

At the same time, digital technology is rapidly transforming education, work, and daily life. However, not everyone is benefitting equally. In Sub-Saharan Africa, girls and women continue to face significant barriers to accessing and using technology, due to factors such as affordability, limited infrastructure, and gender stereotypes.

Addressing these challenges requires not only investing in teacher professional development but also ensuring that digital inclusion is part of the broader push for educational equity. Equipping teachers with both pedagogical skills and digital competencies is essential to closing the gender gap and preparing all learners for the future.

Investing in Teacher Professional Development for Inclusive Quality Education
