Overview

Description

Objective

Reduce vulnerability of smallholder cocoa producers in CO, EC and PE to the impacts of new food safety regulation and climate change, contributing to resilient, competitive and inclusive cocoa value chains.

Outcome

Relevant actors (public institutions, farmers, other value chain actors and researchers) in the cocoa sector develop and implement low cadmium and climate-relevant innovations for smallholder cocoa farms, and support scaling.

Outputs

  • Baselines and impact assessments developed and disseminated to inform context specific policies and planning in support of low cadmium and climate-smart cocoa production.
  • Low cadmium practices and genotypes identified and evaluated, based on robust scientific assessments in multi-locational research trials.
  • Low cadmium and climate-smart technologies and scaling strategies co developed, and disseminated through multi-stakeholder platforms (MSP).
  • Regional research coordination, data and knowledge sharing enhanced; and scientific (including laboratory) capacity has been improved.
