New Edition - Mediterranean Focus
EN// The objective of 'Culture and Development - Action and Impact" is to demonstrate the fundamental role culture has to play in the area of Development. All the projects listed and described have used culture as a means to make a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the communities concerned.
‘Culture and Development – Action and Impact’ focuses on the Mediterranean region – the region where major pro-democracy events have recently taken place. Culture has proven to be a driver for change, for freedom of expression and for democracy. Through supporting the creative sector and cultural diversity in the region, we also support those actors in civil society who are active and mobilised for the change towards wider democracy. The European Union is supporting all its southern neighbours by establishing a partnership for democracy and shared prosperity focused on the people and not just on their governments.
In all, there are 36 projects representing a wide variety of cultural activities and initiatives in developing countries, funded by European and international cooperation. They illustrate good practice, in terms of impact on the development of the communities concerned, and the many shapes, forms and dimensions which culture can take in the development process. The projects marked with * represent those with a “Mediterranean Focus”.

This is the online version of a publication created in collaboration with the European Commission, EUNIC, the British Council and the Federation Wallonia-Brussels.

FR// La nouvelle édition "Focus Méditerranée" traduite en quatre langues dont l’arabe a pour objectif de présenter l’importance fondamentale du rôle de la culture sur deux plans: elle est à la fois vecteur de changement et d’expression de liberté mais aussi facteur de stabilité dans un Proche-Orient en pleine transformation. En soutenant la créativité et la diversité culturelle des pays du Sud de la Méditerranée nous accompagnons des acteurs de la société civile notamment mobilisés pour le changement.
Il y a 36 projets réalisés dans divers domaines de la culture, financées par la coopération européenne et internationale en faveur de pays en développement. Elles illustrent des bonnes pratiques, en termes d’impact sur le développement des communautés concernées, ainsi que les multiples formes et dimensions que la culture peut prendre dans le processus de développement des différentes régions du monde. Les projets marqués * sont labélisés "Focus Méditerranée".
