An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is an analytical process that systematically examines the possible environmental consequences of the implementation of a project. An EIA is carried out for new projects that are likely to have significant adverse impacts on the environment.
The following document provides a model Terms of Reference (ToR) that will need to be adapted according to the specific project and specific country. Explanations or sections to be completed according to individual circumstances are given in italics. A standard format for the EIA report can be found in the appendices.
