Major progress achieved with the first ever joint analysis of the European group in 2019.
In 2019, the European group kicked-off the process of joint programming, and the first European joint analysis was agreed in September 2019. It has been drawn up in consultation with the Member States present in Congo: Germany, Belgium, Italy and France (FR is the only EU Member State with a cooperation programme).
With the general objective of reducing poverty, contributing to a more diversified economy and a more equitable redistribution of national wealth, while preserving the immense natural wealth of the country, this joint analysis proposes to focus EU and Member States' interventions around priorities linked to:
1) strengthening essential public services and the productive private sector,
2) building sustainable social and human capital intended to support economic activity and inclusive growth,
3) promotion and the sustainable management of natural resources and the fight against climate change, and
4) the strengthening of democracy and the rule of law in the Congo.
