Jordan - Sustainable Water Management

The Transformational Potential:

• Support Jordan’s transition to a green and more resilient economy.
• Increase and diversify national water sources in Jordan.
• Target Jordan’s management of its water resources, stepping up on-going and past cooperation in the sector and building on the TEI for COVID-19 response.

The Team Europe Proposal:

1. Joint policy dialogue: Financial sustainability, Commercialisation, Development of an efficient Water-Energy-Food nexus, Inclusive governance approach oriented towards an efficient use of resources.

2. Support key reforms in the water sector: Authorities’ capacity building and TA, Financial aid via budget support and development policy loans to create the necessary fiscal.

3. Promote the energy - water - food nexus: Institutional capacity building (grants), incl. in the areas of digitalization, R&I; Jump-start implementation of the Green Growth strategy (blend of grants and loans key investment projects).

4. Supporting flagship projects (Equity, Loans, Blending/Investment Grants, Guarantees, TA): Aqaba-Amman Desalination project; National Water Conveyor Pumped storage project; Water management infrastructures.
