Water Resources Management – Wastewater and Reuse

The Transformational Potential: to contribute to the climate change adaptation action and the protection of biodiversity through increased treatment of wastewater and its re-use. This transformation is expected to reach agricultural production cycles and the food system a whole.

The Team Europe Proposal, works at five levels:

  • Enabling environment for Water Sector development in Area C 
  • Water and agriculture sector reform
  • Infrastructure 
  • Access to finance
  • Ensure net-lending deductions are reduced

Water Treatment programme

1. Governance: Support to water sector reform (legal Framework and policies, institutional capacity building and awareness)

2. Infrastructure: Transboundary Wastewater Treatment Plant - Tulkarem WWTP 

3. Finance, engagement with Israel to bring mutual accountability on wastewater treatment  and LAs and stakeholders to ensure a polluter/payer approach.

Treated water re-use: 

1. Governance: Water and agriculture sector reform, active and operational Water User Associations, resilient infrastructure and businesses

2. Infrastructure: extend Nablus West WWTP Reuse Scheme and lessons learnt; Hebron WWTP Reuse Scheme; Nablus East WWTP Reuse Scheme; 12 potential areas for REUSE in Area C; Further planning for conveyance and storage system

3. Access to Finance 

Operation & Maintenance of constructed/ existing Infrastructure investments: technical reform, professional and vocational training; O&M support facility for the wastewater infrastructure in Gaza; locally centred management system.
