Children rights

The protocol, adopted in 2000 and entered into force in 2002, requires ratifying States to ensure that persons who have not attained the age of 18 years are not compulsorily recruited into their armed forces.

ILO Convention No 182 of 17 June 1999 requires ratifying States to take immediate and effective measures to secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst of child labour as a matter of urgency.

It was the first instrument to incorporate the complete range of international human rights of the children— including civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights as well as aspects of humanitarian law.
