Created in 2016, CCIF Cyprus supports education and research for social inclusion of all citizens, including youth with fewer opportunities, disabilities and immigrants. Our purpose is to provide an enabling space to people from inauspicious environments and equip them with necessary digital skills to access today’s labour market, while increasing their chances at an equal treatment. At CCIF Cyprus, we try to fuel the dialogue between local communities to address the different fears many have, as we deem it a necessary step to build an inclusive and peaceful society. We have made it our goal to help communities understand that despite the difference in the manifested speech one might hold, the underlying values and feelings are not only equally valid, but also very often the same, in an attempt to connect groups with – and help them relate to – each other.
We are heavily involved in the integration process of immigrants in Pafos, offering them several times a week Greek, English, computer literacy classes, as well as drama classes and sport, so that they can develop their skills and capacity of expression. CCIF Cyprus helped immigrants and refugees learn languages to be better positioned not only to find work, but also to better communicate with their Cypriot counterparts for which sometimes different or foreign can seem rather threatening.

Currently forestry officer at FAO, working as regional coordinator for the Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme, I am based at the FAO sub-regional office of central Africa, in Libreville, Gabon. With a double qualification of doctor in veterinary medicine and PhD in tropical forest ecology, I have nearly 20 years of experience designing and managing field based projects and programmes in tropical forest regions, mostly in the Guiana shield and the Congo Basin. My areas of expertise cover the sustainable management of natural resources and biodiversity conservation, working with a variety of stakeholders going from rural communities and territorial authorities, to researchers and experts in various disciplines, as well as high-level decision makers in governmental and intergovernmental bodies. I am particularly interested in experiencing cross-sectoral approaches to maintain ecosystem health (such as the One Health approach), in developing mechanisms that can improve the governance of natural resources whether at field level or at national and international level, and in promoting evidence-based and participatory policy development approaches allowing the effective integration of scientific and traditional knowledge.

Owner Emilie is a consultant & facilitator with a long-standing work relationship with Fair Trade Tourism in South Africa and has extensive knowledge of the latest responsible tourism developments in Africa and globally. She also has an in-depth understanding of the demand for responsible tourism experiences by the European travel trade and travellers as well as awareness of the needs of smaller responsible tourism businesses when it comes to improving market access and meeting sustainable tourism supply chain requirements. As a qualified Travelife for Tour Operator and Green Globe hotel auditor and a sustainable tourism certification expert she coaches and supports tourism businesses working on their responsible tourism actions but also represents and matches responsible tourism products to suitable tour operator partners in Europe for both the CBI and Import Promotion Desk (IPD) tourism market access programs.
