The Triangular Cooperation Project "Contributing to Food Security for the Population of Cuba", co-financed by the European Union through the ADELANTE Programme, aimed to enhance the availability of safe animal-derived food and improve animal health standards in Cuba. By focusing on strengthening diagnostic capacities and upgrading laboratory infrastructures, the initiative addressed critical aspects of food security and public health. Through collaborative efforts between Chilean and Cuban institutions, the project fostered knowledge exchange and capacity building to support sustainable agricultural development. Objective Increasing the availability of safe food of animal origin and raising levels of animal health in order to improve food security for the population of Cuba. Partners and Their Contributions This Triangular Cooperation initiative brings together key organizations from Chile and Cuba: ● Agencia de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo de Chile (AGCID): Coordinating institution providing technical expertise and facilitating international collaboration. ● Ministerio de Agricultura (MINAG) - Cuba: Partner institution responsible for implementing project activities within Cuba, focusing on agricultural development and food security policies. ● Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero (SAG) - Chile: Partner institution offering specialized knowledge in animal health and food safety, contributing to training and capacity-building components. Addressing Development Challenges Cuba faces challenges in ensuring food security, particularly concerning the availability and safety of animal-derived products. Limited resources, outdated laboratory equipment, and the need for enhanced technical capacities hinder effective monitoring and control of animal diseases, impacting both public health and the agricultural sector. This project aimed at: ● Increased the availability of safe animal-derived food products. ● Improved animal health standards through enhanced diagnostic capabilities. ● Strengthened laboratory infrastructures and technical capacities. ● Fostered sustainable agricultural practices to support long-term food security.
