The objective of the ACCEDES Project is to improve the access, promotion and enrolment of vulnerable groups in milieus with risk of social exclusion in Latin America. To attain this goal, three operating objectives are proposed that will be developed via three cross-cutting strategic focuses. The working objectives respond to technical matters of the project itself and are summarised in:
Objective 1, the unifying topic of specific project initiatives, primarily seeks the development of a didactic-organisational methodology, grounded on education guidance, which facilitates the access and continuance of vulnerable groups at higher-education institutions (hereinafter, HEI), via a review of existing policies and experiences in Latin America and better identification of these vulnerable groups.
Objective 2, centred on the institutional arena, plans to combine normal development and organisational improvement strategies with the access and continuance methodology developed, thus generating its own intervention model that is adapted to the present situation at HEIs. It is essential that adding new plans and programmes is integrated effectively and does not disrupt institutional dynamics at the different universities involved. And furthermore, they should also aid in structuring institutional improvement and development processes.
Finally, objective 3 involves qualified experimentation, in principle, and the subsequent generalisation of the model while, in parallel, fostering a work-experience network or community among those involved in the different activities developed for the inclusion and promotion of academic success among disadvantaged groups at Latin American universities. This last objective directly contributes to the institutionalisation and generalisation of the model developed, as well as promoting a Latin-American higher-education space, facilitating exchanges and connections between HEI participants in the projects.
The proposed goals plan to advance in attaining the established purpose and promoting synergies that will lead to the implementation of a new way of tackling the problem. On the one hand, this means increasing institutions’ potential to respond to the contextual problems that will most certainly arise and, on the other, strengthening a system of working in a network that can provide assistance through the exchange of experiences and the unified support of participating institutions.
