EEAS
Event details
Description
Gender equality is one of the EU’s fundamental values. Gender equality and women’s empowerment are also essential factors to prevent, manage and resolve conflict and crises. The EU Strategic Approach to Women, Peace and Security, welcomed by the Foreign Affairs Council in December 2018, contains commitments and clear guidelines to achieve peace and security by engaging, empowering, protecting and supporting women and girls.
Are you interested in an earnest debate about the future of the Women Peace and Security agenda in the European Union, the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence, and women's meaningful participation? Next Tuesday, 25 June, the EEAS will lead an academic round table on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and on the implementation of the EU Strategic Approach to WPS. The conference can be followed live via webstream.
HRVP Mogherini, EEAS Secretary-General Schmid and EEAS Principal Advisor on Gender and on the implementation of UNSCR 1325 Amb. Marinaki will address and join a roundtable of leading scholars from around the world that will bring an analytical approach to the policy debate.
Globally renowned Professor Cynthia Enloe will deliver a keynote speech before the debate begins.
