Description
The conference will serve as a launch of the Africa Disaster Risk Financing initiative, managed by the World Bank Group and GFDRR. The initiative is a capacity-building program designed to help African countries make informed decisions, improve financial response capacity post disaster and mitigate the socio-economic, fiscal and financial impacts of disasters.
African countries are increasingly looking for support in order to gain a better understanding of the underlying hazards, vulnerability and risks associated with disasters and develop tailored strategies for reducing and managing risks.
The UR&F conference will provide a forum for African policy-makers to discuss effective strategies and approaches to improve financial post-disaster response capacity and mitigate the socio-economic, fiscal and financial impacts of disasters. It will also be an opportunity to share best practices and experiences in disaster risk assessment and risk financing and advance these agendas in Africa. We anticipate an audience of 300 – 500 attendees, representing Government agencies, regional institutions, the financial and insurance sector, international organizations, and academia. A detailed agenda will be circulated in September 2015.
GFDRR is currently seeking proposals for session topics and we cordially invite you to submit a proposal to Rossella Della Monica (rdellamonica@worldbankgroup.org).
