Biodiversity for Life 2.0 (B4Life 2.0) Facility

To help deliver the initiative’s goals and outputs, the B4Life 2.0 Facility provides practical support to the European Commission's International Partnerships (INTPA), Enlargement and the Eastern Neighbourhood (ENEST), and Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf (MENA) Directorates-General, as well as to EU Delegations, through:

  1. Enhancing working relationships: between geographic and thematic units in DGs INTPA, ENEST and MENA, with EUDs; and building relationships with financial institutions (including those participating in the EFSD+) and Member States (given their role in Team Europe approaches).
  2. Developing ‘the case for biodiversity’ from a regional perspective (sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Central Asia, North Africa, etc.).
  3. Adapting to partners and differentiated approach by region. The B4Life 2.0 Facility will adapt its approach to suit the relevant funding instruments (the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI) and the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA)).
  4. Knowledge sharing within and outside the sector, by engaging with other development bodies, EU institutions and biodiversity actors (including on finance).
  5. Engaging short-term experts as needed. A key expert team of 4 will be supported by non-key experts for specific tasks and in specialist thematic areas.

When?

The B4Life Facility is providing technical assistance for the period December 2023-December 2027.

Who?
The B4Life initiative is coordinated by the European Commission through the INTPA (unit F2), ENEST and MENA DGs.

The B4Life Facility is implemented by an AGRECO-led consortium. The 4 key experts are:

  • Geraldo Carreiro, Team Leader
  • Stefania Petrosillo, NEAR region
  • Quentin Jungers, INTPA region
  • Walid Fayad, Sustainable Finance expert

The Facility also includes a provision of man-days to mobilise Non-Key Experts on short-term assignments, to answer support needs from Delegations and Headquarters services.
