6th Annual DeLoG Meeting (May 2011) UNDP: The ART Initiative

This presentation, delivered by Johannes Krassnitzer and Giovanni Camilleri of UNDP, gives an overview of the ART Initiative promoted by UNDP in 18 countries throughout the world to enhance aid effectiveness at the local level and promote coordination at the national level. It also provides with some inputs from UNDP for Busan.

The preliminary findings of the ART initiative include the following:

• A territorial approach to development can improve aid effectiveness at local level
• Sub-national governments have a key role to play in achieving aid effectiveness
• The concept of ownership needs to be broadened to include sub-national governments and territorial stakeholders
