Description
The project “Strengthening the dialogue and cooperation between the European Union (EU) and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to establish management models on migration and development policies” (EU-LAC project on migration) of the EU aims to participate in the process of cooperation between the EU and the CELAC region and to contribute to the strengthening of regional and national capacities in the LAC countries to support the permanent exchange of information and good practices between these countries, as well as between the EU and the CELAC region.
The EU appointed the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in close coordination with the Foundation for International and Ibero-American Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP) for the entire implementation of the project.
The project is divided into three thematic components.
- Data on Migration
Strengthening of the migration data collection: Strengthening the capacities of those countries with major migratory flows towards the EU in the compilation, processing and exchange of data on migration. This component is exclusively implemented by IOM. - Migration and Employment
Building capacity for promoting sound migration management: Strengthening of capacities for the effective management of migration through the implementation of reintegration policies aimed at those who wish to return to their communities of origin. This component is divided into Line A: Migration management (general focus) and Line B: The reintegration of migrants who return voluntarily to their places of origin. This component is exclusively implemented by FIIAPP. - Remittances & Development Policies
Institutional strengthening for promoting the link between remittances and development: Creation of mechanisms to support migrants and recipient communities in order to maximise the use of remittances as a tool for development, through institutional strengthening and building of multi-stakeholder partnerships. This component is implemented jointly by IOM and FIIAPP.
