Egypt - Integrated Water and Food Security

The Transformational Potential:

• Improving environmental protection and strengthening rural communities by addressing the main challenge faced by agriculture, (water productivity and scarcity), while adapting to climate change.
• Integrating the key regulatory and people-to-people dimensions to provide an effective socio-economic response to the COVID-19 pandemic impact.

The Team Europe Proposal:

1. Support the Egyptian Government in NWRP – 2037 and SADS for 2030 implementation, foster strategic policy dialogue, water sector reform, establish a more resilient food system.

2. Improve the rural community’s livelihood - smallholder farmers, their families, cooperatives, and associations.

3. Support the socio-economic development of the rural areas (local participatory approaches, mitigate water scarcity, provide efficient agricultural extension services, improve livestock wealth, innovative solutions for generating income (rural women), access to education and training).

4. Improve the natural resources management: NWRP 2037: improve Freshwater Availability; Water Quality; Water Use Management; Enabling Environment; Protect the natural resources of the cultivated areas: integrated farming, pest management, agricultural practices; Promote Resource Efficiency (efficiency indicators and tools).

5. Raising awareness for the public (advocating water reforms).

6. Gender mainstreaming and youth empowerment.

7. Digitalization
