Communicating Development Cooperation

I have lived and worked in Canada for the past 14 years, beginning my career with ISANS, where I supported Syrian refugees with settlement, integration, and essential services. I then joined the Government of Nova Scotia as a Case Manager at the Department of Community Services, managing cases for a large cohort of Syrian refugees and providing comprehensive support across financial assistance, healthcare access, housing, and social integration, as well as leading resettlement and reintegration projects. Subsequently, I worked with the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission. In a separate professional experience in Egypt, I collaborated with the Fund to Combat Irregular Migration, delivering capacity-building and training programs for staff of the three national councils on the risks of irregular migration. Currently, I work at the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, where I have contributed to drafting child protection policies and implementing the Child Empowerment Program.

My passion for languages led me to work as a freelance interpreter (English, Spanish and French) after several years of studying at various universities (including UCV Venezuela -international relations- and UCL Belgium -development sciences). I have also worked in senior positions in international social and trade union organisations, being human rights director and responsible for ILO labour standards, as well as ensuring regional political coordination (Asia-Pacific, Africa and Americas) and project management in these regions.

Continuing professional development (CPD) is key. I regularly participate in coaching sessions with world-class linguists and industry experts in both interpreting and translation, as well as in my areas of specialisation:

In recent years, I have interpreted meetings for international organisations (UNIDO, UNDP, ITU, ILO, IOM, UNEP, UNON, UNODC, UNECE, UNECA, WHO, UNFCCC, CoP conferences and UN treaty bodies), EU bodies (EU Parliament, CoR, EESC, ELA), regional regional parliaments, national ministries (foreign affairs, employment), global companies (EWCs, social dialogue bodies, audit committees, supervisory boards, CSR and due diligence, marketing, workers’ interviews), political parties, think tanks, NGOs, CSO networks (human rights, fair trade, decent work, development, gender, due diligence initiatives) and trade unions (ITUC and regional trade unions).
