Jaap Koot is a medical doctor specialised in public health and health management with a postgraduate degree in International Health and Tropical Medicine (KNMG) and Master in Business Administration. He works in education and research in the university and in international health and development. He has experience in the Netherlands, in Central and Eastern Europe and in middle- and low-income countries all over the world.
His research concentrates on policy development to reduce inequities in health, for example in community health for prevention of non-communicable diseases. In education he focuses on global health care management and health promotion. He supports public health institutes in low-income countries in strengthening research for evidence-based policy making.

I have an extensive background in public health, policy, and administration. Lately, I have been working as a consultant for the World Health Organization and NGOs in Portuguese Speaking African Countries. I have also been involved in various educational and professional initiatives, including lecturing at universities, speaking in conferences, and working with governmental, non-governmental, and private sector organizations.
Work at the interface between the water, environment and health sectors in a developing country context. Focus is on prevention and control of water related parasitic infections. Topics include e.g. health impact assessment of water resources development and integrated water resource management and health; climate change and health,; planetary health. Will contribute an intersectoral approach to sustainable health.
I joined the Permanent Representation of Greece to the EU in September 2023. I am dealing mostly with EU International Development and Cooperation issues as a designated delegate at relevant working parties of the Council. My main WPs are CODEV-PI, RELEX-HQ and EFTA. I am looking forward to engage with colleagues and stakeholders from the EU Institutions and all over Europe.
