Family planning is a cornerstone of sustainable development. Access to contraceptives gives girls a higher chance of staying in school and completing their education. It also increases women’s autonomy within their households and improves their earning power.
Globally, however, 214 million women continue to lack access to family planning. This means they often have limited options when it comes to choosing when – and if – they are going to have children.

In the first of our new podcast series, we look at how one EU-funded programme is attempting to give women that choice.
UNFPA Supplies is a thematic fund of the United Nations Population Fund that aims to “build stronger health systems and widen access to a reliable supply of reproductive health and contraceptives” – with the ultimate goal of reaching 120 million women by 2020.
