Intercultural competences (ex-InCA): Introduction

The InterCultural Approach Programme (ex-InCA) is an interdisciplinary action-research programme of DG INTPA.

It aims at increasing the effectiveness and the results of the EU external policies and interventions though an intercultural sensitive partnership with countries and implementing organisations by:

  • developing the capacity of the European and local staff in EUD to work better together building on their cultural diversity;
  • facilitating internal collaboration between Headquarters and EU delegations;
  • increasing the quality of dialogue and cooperation with authorities and local partners;
  • enhancing the relevance and the impact of programmes and projects.

International cooperation is a multicultural space where cultural differences could often generate misunderstandings, tensions, and inefficiencies.  There are tangible and intangible cultural barriers in our delegations and collaborations. They limit our capacity to work with internal and external teams, hindering the quality of our policy dialogue and interventions management and thus the impact of our results and relationships.
