he European Union promotes entrepreneurship as a key competence that can boost competitiveness and growth. It has highlighted the importance of advancing a European entrepreneurial culture by fostering the right mind-set and entrepreneurshiprelated skills in the Europe 2020 strategy. As a result, entrepreneurship education is now being increasingly encouraged across Europe.
Encouraging entrepreneurship is particularly important to face challenges related to alarmingly high youth unemployment rates in most of the EU Member States. Entrepreneurship and self-employment off er pathways for young people to emerge from unemployment. In this context, special attention is paid to the social entrepreneurship model, which is embedded in the real economy, close to people and to local communities, and primarily aimed at contributing to the general good of society.
