A film produced for the EU Support programme for the preservation of forest ecosystems in West Africa (PAPFor, https://papfor.org/) in 2024 has been selected among finalists at the International Tourism Film Festival Africa (https://itff.africa/# )

The Festival held 3-6 June 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa has received 442 entries from 59 countries.

The PAPFor film ‘Taï Grebo-Krahn Sapo: Sharing knowledge and skills in agroforestry’ (7:50 minutes; https://vimeo.com/999849828 ) has been selected as one of the finalists in the ‘Wildlife and Conservation’ category.

Filmed in April 2022 in Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia, in the Taï region and on the banks of the Cavally River and its Saro tributary, by a team consisting of Ilse Tempelaar (producer), André Le Moustarder (camera), Randal P. Jackson (drone) and Samuel Brewer (driver), the film shows how community agroforestry initiatives led by groups of women and men, such as community forests, tree nurseries and the processing of forest resources such as makoré oil  (from seeds of the Tieghemella heckelii tree, which is heavily exploited for its timber and classed as ‘Endangered’), contribute to protecting the rich biodiversity of this landscape whilst securing the livelihoods of local populations.

The short film is one of a series produced about activities in the West African forest landscapes supported though the PAPFor programme 2019-2024. All film are available in both English and French.

We are delighted to share that the PAPFor programme film series on the preservation of Upper Guinean forests was awarded Silver in the Wildlife and Conservation category at the International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA).

Ilse Tempelaar, producer, said: "This award belongs to everyone who contributed to this series. It’s yours. As filmmakers, we hope it will add to raising awareness on the need to protect and manage these unique forest landscapes, with and by communities."
