What is this project about?
The Climate Change Adaptation in the Danube Delta project (2011-2014, 1 million EUR) supports the building of a basis for the adaptation of the Ukrainian, Moldovan and Romanian parts of the Danube Delta region to the changing climate conditions through integrated land and water management, increasing co-operation of the sub-basin countries. The project is implemented by WWF Danube Carpathian Programme Romania. The project contributes to:
- Increasing co-operation between the partner countries to develop and implement regional trans-boundary Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan. The Adaptation Strategy will be incorporated into the Climate Adaptation Strategy for the Danube River Basin adopted by the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River.
- Strengthening capacity of local nature and water managers and increasing awareness of local stakeholders in the Danube Delta to address climate change.
- Demonstrating opportunities for income and energy generation from sustainable biomass production.
