Work with regional partners

MEAs 2 builds on the collaborations institutionalised during the first phase of the programme with the regional centres and their committees as follows:

  • East African Community (EAC). Specifically, with the Agriculture and Food Security Department of and the Environment and Natural Resources (ENR).
  • Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) mainly through the South African Pesticide Regulators Forum (SAPReF).SAPReF was formed in 2011 aiming to achieve sound management of pesticides and biopesticides used in agriculture, public health, domestic environments. It has since 2014 been endorsed by the SADC Secretariat as a subcommittee of the SADC Plant Protection Technical Committee and mandated to address pesticide management issues at regional level.
  • Coordinating Group of Pesticides Control Boards of the Caribbean (CGPC) and the CARICOM Secretariat (The Caribbean Community), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and with relevant technical agencies.
  • Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC).

In participating countries, FAO collaborates with the appropriate Ministries (Agriculture, Environment, Health) to address the issues of improved pesticide management and risk reduction.

  • Africa: Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, Botswana
  • Caribbean: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago;
  • Pacific: Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu Tonga and Niue, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Palau, Kiribati and Papua New Guinea.
