TED Partner Country Engagement
Strategic Engagement in Partner Countries
The TED Initiative actively supports EU Delegations in selected partner countries, enhancing the European commitment to foster democratic practices. This engagement is carried out through the TED Secretariat, which collaborates closely with EU Member States (MS) to provide bespoke technical support in the areas of democracy and human rights. By focusing on tailored interventions, TED ensures that the support provided is not only relevant but also strategically aligned with the context and EU programmes and actions on the ground.
Activities and Impact
In partner countries, TED's activities range from developing technical studies and legal analyses to facilitating joint actions that promote democratic reforms. The initiative places a strong emphasis on consolidating resources and aligning efforts between the EU and EU MS to maximise the impact of each intervention. For instance, TED facilitates workshops and dialogues aimed at strengthening the rule of law and enhancing civic participation, ensuring that these efforts resonate with the specific geopolitical and social fabric of each country. These engagements are designed to provide sustainable solutions that encourage long-term democratic resilience.
Collaborative and Context-Specific Approaches
Each TED intervention is crafted to reflect the unique challenges and opportunities within the partner countries. The selection of these countries is a meticulous process, driven by criteria developed to assess where TED can be most effective. The focus is on creating a synergy between the EU's strategic interests and the partner countries' democratic aspirations. Through a demand-driven approach, TED not only responds to immediate needs but also prepares the groundwork for future initiatives, setting a precedent for how democracy support is approached by European entities on the global stage.
To date, the TED Secretariat has provided technical support to EUDs in six partner countries: Mongolia, Uganda, DR Congo, Colombia, Jordan and Tanzania.
