ACP consultative meeting in preparation for the UNFCCC COP20

Background

The 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP20) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 10th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP10) will take place from 1 to 12 December 2014 in Lima, Peru.
The Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States is organizing a ACP Consultative meeting in preparation for COP20 to allow the ACP Member States to prepare for the international climate negotiations in a coordinated manner.
The consultative meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 28th October 2014 at the ACP House, Brussels Belgium.

Objectives

The main objective of the one-day meeting will be to provide background information on key issues and facilitate exchange of views in order to agree on a common ACP position for COP20 which could be used by delegations of the ACP Member States in Lima during the negotiations.

Organisation

A technical briefing paper on key issues to be negotiated at COP20/CMP10 will be presented by an external consultant in order to deepen the understanding of the key issues on the agenda and facilitate the discussions on the various issues.
A representative from each ACP region and the South Centre, will present their perspectives on current key issues in the UNFCCC negotiations.
Based on the presentations and discussions, a draft ACP Position paper will be presented for discussion and finalization during the afternoon session.

This will be sent to the meeting of the ACP Sub-Committee of Ambassadors for further discussion in view of its submission to the ACP Committee of Ambassadors.
