Journalism training
For the first time, 28 journalists from the GERIS media cohort met online in late August 2021. The media cohort familiarised with the project, the project themes and discussed their experiences and professional focal points. The participant received online training, by our journalism expert – Dina Newman, in basic editorial skills, including how to approach the commissioning of stories. This will directly support the process of developing stories together with civil society participants.
The media cohort participants have been divided into the same six thematic groups as their civil society peers. The choice of project theme was based on every single participant’s preferences and reporting focus.
The purpose of the activity was to help establish an uninterrupted flow of stories; to train journalists in best practices - including correct terminology - when reporting on social inclusion, societal resilience, interfaith issues and covering religion and society.
