Media placement workshop
The purpose of the Media Placement Workshop was capacity building for GERIS Network members, to help them foster better relations with national media outlets and increase the visibility of their work. The workshop was delivered in hybrid format, with 15 in-person participants (EU countries only, due to travel limitations) at the Brussels event and the rest of the GERIS Network connecting online. To accommodate travel restrictions related to Covid 19, the project team developed an innovative hybrid training model consisting of in-person and online modules that combine in-person and online sessions, interactive materials, and mentoring. Our trainer Danica Ilic, a highly experienced and regarded media professional, built upon the content of the streamed in-person event. This great approach also allows the transfer of knowledge and best practices between participants.
The workshop used practical examples of how community organisations or other civil society actors from faith and non-faith backgrounds have increased effective media coverage and what methods and tools they have used. The workshop also looked at how to write press releases, how to use and build relations with editors, and how to maintain contacts with journalists at the main media outlets. It showed participants how to develop more advanced, cutting-edge ideas on strategy, measurement and competitiveness when engaging with media about their work. These new skills can be used later in the participants’ own organisational engagement with media and continuous engagement through GERIS Alumni Network.
