Smart and Efficient Cities
Description
As part of the main Global Gateway umbrella program, smart cities exploit cutting-edge digital technologies to implement intelligent solutions that make municipal service delivery, urban transport, water, and waste infrastructure more efficient in cities.
By harnessing data analytics, IoT (Internet of Things), AI (Artificial Intelligence), and data analysis, smart cities offer a strategic platform for addressing climate change challenges, improving operational efficiency, sharing more accurate information with the public, and providing better quality municipal service delivery and citizen welfare.
As stated by IPCC in 2023, digital solutions and information and communication technology (ICT) effectively reduce energy demand and associated greenhouse gas emissions by 5–10% in all end-use sectors due to their ability to increase energy efficiency in transport and service systems.
The Smart and Efficient Cities thematic area will share knowledge and resources with experts and practitioners on implementing the following strategies to facilitate the process of digital transformation for urban development, including municipal e-service delivery (e.g., solid waste management, wastewater management, citizen services, municipal payment systems), data infrastructure, urban mobility, and digital climate-smart solutions and green infrastructure, and facilitate administrative procedures.
Knowledge Products implemented under the DG INTPA F4 are shared on this web page.
