25-09 Inception meeting in the disaggregation process of the adopted Energy Policy
The ECOWAS Directorate of Energy and Mines held on the 25th of September 2023, an inception meeting with the team in charge of the implementation of the AGOSE-AO Project to officially start the disaggregation process of the newly adopted Regional Energy Policy into National Action Plans.
For the effective implementation of the Policy, the Directorate of Energy and Mines has deemed necessary to set up a team of experts, in collaboration with NTU International A/S, to assist Member States in drawing up National Action Plans in line with the Regional Policy and responding to the needs of Member States. The Team will also work
with the regional agencies in charge of energy (ECREEE, ERERA and WAPP) to include relevant actions into their respective strategic plans. In addition, a monitoring and evaluation mechanism for keeping track of the implementation of the energy policy will be designed.
A recommendation has been made during the meeting for the whole process to be fully participatory, with a strong involvement of the Member States and the regional agencies in charge of energy (ECREEE, ERERA and WAPP).
NTU International A/S presented a briefing note on the disaggregation of the ECOWAS Energy Policy into National Action Plans at the 15th meeting of the ECOWAS Ministers in charge of Energy, held in Cotonou, Benin, on the 7th of October, 2023.
