ECOWAS Energy Information System
Following more than two years of hard work, a regional energy information system has officially been launched: https://eis.ecowas.int/.
The ECOWAS Energy Information System (EIS) is a computerized tool for collecting, processing, storing and disseminating national energy statistics. As a comprehensive information platform, it can be accessed by both policymakers and the general public in English, French and Portuguese.
On the EIS website, visitors can view, among others, information on:
-
The energy situation in the region and in the Member States
-
Socio-economic and sustainable development indicators
-
Carbon dioxide emission indicators
-
Policies and regulations
-
Energy infrastructure, etc.
The website also publishes articles and documents related to energy in ECOWAS, and displays a wide-range of figures and items that can be exported by the users:
- Energy statistics and indicators for a chosen year and country
- Scrolling images and graphs
- Interactive map with over 50 indicators
- Latest news and articles concerning energy in the ECOWAS region
- Energy flows and balances
- Graphs
The platform is useful for understanding the distribution of energy, identifying the most important energy sources, energy losses and possibilities for energy efficiency of processes, both for each Member State and for the whole region.
A newsletter has been set up for users to be regularly updated with the latest energy-related news. Overall, the ECOWAS EIS enables the traceability of energy from its production to its final use and is an essential decision-making tool for the development and monitoring of a coherent energy policy.
