Regional workshop on the Gender Mainstreaming Guidelines for National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) in West Africa’s energy sector

On the 2nd-3rd October 2023, a regional workshop on the Gender Mainstreaming Guidelines for National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) in West Africa’s energy sector was organized by ERERA in Cotonou, Benin.

The aim of the workshop was to support Gender Focal Points, enable the comprehension of the Guidelines principles which serve as a tool to conduct institutional gender analysis, and assist them in drafting/reviewing gender mainstreaming strategies.

The AGoSE-AO KE2 expert and the Senior Gender NKE were also present at the workshop and presented the following work developed by the AGoSE-AO team:

💡 The ERERA gender analysis report

💡 The ERERA gender mainstream strategy

💡 The draft guidelines on gender mainstreaming for ECOWAS National Regulatory Authorities

All three deliverables were endorsed during the two-days’ workshop.

As part of the support provided to ERERA under the AGOSE-AO TA project, the NTU team was assigned to develop the ERERA’s Gender Mainstreaming Strategy that supports ERERA to put measures in place that will enhance gender balance and mainstreaming institutionally in ERERA, taking into account the Policy and Directive on Gender Mainstreaming for Energy Access.

With the ERERA gender analysis, gender mainstream strategy and guidelines on gender mainstreaming for ECOWAS NRAs validated, the next step of the assignment is for the NTU team to prepare the Capacity gaps assessment report as well as plan and deliver gender training modules.
