6.1 VCA4D Conference - Knowledge Briefs
In January 2023, VCA4D organised an onsite and online Conference: ‘Value Chain Analysis for Development: providing evidence for better policies and operations in agricultural value chains’. During the Conference, 14 transversal analyses were presented. These analyses were realised using data from the over 40 VCA4D studies realised up-to-then by the project, and they attempted to gain cross-cutting lesson from VCA4D studies.
The experts prepared synthetic power points at the Conference and the full analyses are available here. Although the analyses contain interesting and important findings they are quite lengthy and scientific, therefore difficult to be read by a larger audience.
Therefore, four page knowledge briefs have been created summarising the main findings of six of the analyses presented at the conference. These briefs will contain the main messages and lessons learnt to be diffused to a wide audience of policy makers (EU staff and staff of partner countries), farmers organisations, value chain stakeholders.
The six analyses selected are as follows:
- Women’s role in agricultural value chains – Lessons learnt from VCA4D – Gender equality analysis
- Agroecology, responsible value chains and transforming agriculture and food systems
- Enhancing productivity of smallholder staple food crop producers in Africa when input subsidies are not working: What other options are available?
- The role of the ‘hidden middle’ for agri-food systems value chain dynamics
- Can certified cocoa win on all fronts? A comparative analysis of the trade-offs between reducing deforestation, defeating children labour and increasing producers’ income in four countries
- The interactions of land tenure and agricultural value chain development in Africa: A synthesis from VCA4D Studies
The briefs will be added below as soon as they become available.
