Operationalising an EU Approach to Research and Innovation for Sustainable Agriculture and Food and Nutrition security:
Drawing on lessons learned
This workshop, which attracted around 80 participants, was opened by Roberto Ridolfi, DG Europeaid Director for Sustainable growth and development. It focused on case studies of EU support to AR4D that had achieved significant success and impact. These included the CGIAR Generation Challenge Programme which has developed crop varieties resistant to drought and other environmental stresses, the Sub-Saharan Africa Challenge Programme led by FARA (Forum on Agricultural Research in Africa) which has pioneered the Innovation Platform concept, harnessing multi-stakeholder partnerships to link smallholder farmers to markets and generate jobs along the value chain, and the JOLISAA project that helps small farmers to innovate and to articulate their demands for research support. A closing panel discussed the role CGIAR can play in contributing to DEVCO's policy priorities in sustainable agriculture, agricultural growth, nutrition and resilience.
