Digitalisation for the Green Deal Training February 23-24, March 2-3 2021

Training objective

The overall objective is to enable Commission staff to identify the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation intervention in their geographic area and with a strong relevance to the green deal. They should be able to identify the actors and discuss with them about the needs for investments and regulations. It will also do so by providing participants with an opportunity to receive guidance from HQs colleagues and various opportunities for exchange, sharing and learning from existing practices (best practices and lessons learnt). The participants will gain an overview of what opportunities technologies and digitalisation can offer to the circular economy and to green growth and jobs. Possible challenges of digitalisation such as e-waste, impact on energy consumption and more general data protection, privacy and ethical questions will be discussed. Through examples of different uses of new digital technologies such as smart energy and efficiency, environmental monitoring, precise agriculture, use of drones for reforestations, digitalisation for solar and wind powered renewable energy, etc. digital transformation as an enabler for the green deal will be analysed.

The training will target European Union’s Development Cooperation program officers and program managers working at several EU delegations, aiming at providing them with an introductory yet comprehensive exposure to key elements of digitalisation for sustainable development and digitalisation for the Green Deal.

Content

The overall training will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to D4theGreenDeal;
  • Introduction to Digitalisation & the nexus with Development Cooperation;
  • Impact of digital transformation on the environment and clean technologies;

Target audience

Participants will include DG INTPA staff in EU Delegations and Headquarters, staff from the “RELEX family” (NEAR, ECHO, TRADE, FPI, ECFIN, EEAS staff) and from the relevant line DGs.
