Digitalisation for Infrastructure: 9-10 December 2019

Training objective

The overall objective is to enable Commission staff to identify the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation intervention in their geographic area and with a strong relevance to infrastructure development (energy, transport, cities and water). They should be able to identify the actors and discuss with them about the needs for investments and regulations. It will also do so by providing participants with an opportunity to receive guidance from HQs colleagues and various opportunities for exchange, sharing and learning from existing practices (best practices and lessons learnt).

Scope and key issues to be covered

The training follows back-to-back the Annual Infrastructure Seminar taking place in Brussels from 2 to 6 December 2019. It covers the areas, which are divided into the following modules:

  • Module 1: Introduction to Digitalisation 
  • Module 2: Digitalisation and Development cooperation
  • Module 3: Data and the economy
  • Module 4: Economy of Digitalisation

It furthers provides the participants with concrete examples and case studies, coupled with key conceptual and policy aspects within each of the predefined modules. The programme offers coverage for: 

  • The difference between ICT, digitalisation and digital application.
  • The key actors on digitalisation (internationally and locally).
  • The opportunities and challenges of digitalisation for jobs and growth, and societal challenges, in the given context.
  • E-services and related infrastructure contribution to better service delivery, quality and access.
  • Conditions for e-services to be successfully deployed by public or private entities (incl. start-ups).
  • Mainstreaming digitalisation for infrastructure development in partner countries

Target audience

Staff in EU Delegations and Headquarters’ staff, in particular those tasked with the preparation of programming and project activities in sectors that could mainstream digitalisation, as well as participants from the Annual Infrastructure Seminar taking place from 2 to 6 December 2019.
