Economic and social empowerment
The EU strongly believes that women and men in all their diversity should have equal opportunities, equal access to resources, employment, decent work and equal pay for equal work in order to achieve economic independence.
At the same time, the EU is committed to promoting equal access to basic services such as education and health, given the gender gaps in schooling and learning, and the funding gaps in public health systems, which have a strong impact on services for girls and women.
Here are some examples of what the EU is doing: to reduce market segregation, to promote women's entrepreneurship, to increase girls' access to formal education, to combat gender stereotypes and discriminatory social norms through education, or to support universal access to health systems.
