Gender-Based Violence
Rooted in harmful social norms and stereotypes that cut across cultures and social classes,
gender-based violence affects all communities and imposes enormous costs on victims, their families, societies and economies.
It persists in every country and is one of the most widespread and under-reported forms of human rights abuse.
The EU is funding a broad range of initiatives and programmes worldwide aiming to end all forms of gender-based violence.
Here there are some examples of EU work that contributes to: strengthening survivors protection by improving legal systems; promoting prevention by raising awareness and engaging men; providing access to services and supporting economic empowerment of survivors; responding and preventing gender-based violence in humanitarian settings; and strengthening civil society organisation working on this field.
