Equal participation and leadership
Women and girls should participate equally in the
public and private sphere, to achieve a functioning democracy and economy, and to fulfil human rights for all.
Nevertheless, women continue to be under-represented.
The EU is committed to increasing women's participation and representation in elected bodies, strengthening women's capacity as political leaders, encouraging young women and girls to increase their civic engagement and promoting a safe environment for their participation in public life.
One of the EU's flagship programmes is the WYDE Women and Youth Democratic Engagement which you can read more about here: WYDE - Women and Youth Democratic Engagement | Capacity4dev. WYDE, Women and Youth Democratic Engagement, is an EU initiative focused on increasing the participation of young people and women in democratic processes and public life
